Walking in The Jungle

This piece captures the pure innocence, joy, and boundless imagination of childhood play. I aimed to preserve the magic of a moment, to tell a story that evokes wonder and reminds us of the beauty in simple, joyful experiences. My goal was to capture a fleeting memory and make it timeless. The techniques I used for the drawings are graphite pencil, color pencils, micron pen, and watercolor. I imported these traditional drawings into photoshop to place into a photograph I took with my phone camera. This is a personal passion project that gave me the opportunity to merge my skills as a photographer, graphic designer, and illustrator; integrating my traditional illustrations and photography into a cohesive image that inspires narrative. I developed a detailed case study to document my creative process, from concept to final execution, making this not just a personal exploration, but a foundation for future, purpose-driven work, bringing images to life through visual storytelling.

This project started out through pretend play. As we were playing, I noticed the lighting was so beautiful. As we were fully absorbed in our imaginary jungle world, I took out my phone to attempt to capture this moment forever.
When looking at the photograph, the building in the background was not ideal
for the whimsical feeling of this moment, so I brought it into Photoshop to
make some edits

I first edited the photograph, adjusting the tonal range using Levels and Curves. I removed the building and used Photoshop's AI generative fill to create a jungle setting. I was able to create a realistic background editing small segments at a time. I was happy with this result, but maybe something was missing...

As I was editing the photograph, I was inspired to add the imaginary creatures we encountered in our adventures. What kind of creatures where they? And what did they look like? I ventured into my illustrations to find out. I added these using masking

I enhanced and added color to them using a variety of digital brushes. This particular image was colored using Procreate.

I used the Dodge and Burn Tool to create shadows and lights to make the characters blend into their new environment

The rest of my original sketches. And a picture of my tiny feathered muses, for added cuteness.

Final result. Inspired by our pretend play, I call this piece "Walking in the Jungle" I am happy with how it turned out. This project is special to me because it is the first time I see several of my illustrations merged together with my photography in a new world. This brings up more exciting ideas and inspiration, it feels like the beginning of some other projects.
