Painting on paper called “the Secret of Loneliness” Selected for publication. The process is inspired by a fabric dyeing technique called “batik” it involves painting with tempera paints over the initial drawing, then covering the whole piece in India ink and washing it off. I then go over it with more ink, markers and acrylic paint.

I developed this piece into an idea for a poetry book cover by the same title. I used photoshop to create the front, spine and back. This is my third and final iteration of the project, and the one that remains most faithful to the original painting

I then went on to develop some illustrations for inside the book. The pigeon silhouettes I created in photoshop.

The illustrations featuring people were directly from my  sketchbooks, I then modified them in photoshop. They are meant to go with the writings and ideas of my sketchbook at the time.

The image on the right is from an old sketchbook, It directly represents the feeling at the time connected to "The Secret of Loneliness" I recognize this is a raw sketch that might not be the best fit for a book illustration. I kept the chair and pose, and heavily edited the rest. The cigarette smoke transformed into something more positive. I am happy with how it turned out

With the wonderful help of AI, I polished my writings, shaping my raw thoughts into clearer poems to use in place of Lorem Ipsum. So I do not directly take credit for these poems, only the illustrations.

The color image is my original illustration, done with micron pen and watercolor. The greyscale image was modified on Photoshop to use in the book.
